In a shocking incident that unfolded in Nnokwa, Idemili South Local Government Area of Anambra State, the police have taken into custody a woman identified as Nneamaka Nwosu. She stands accused of setting a policewoman and her two children on fire, leading to their untimely demise.
The suspect, originally from Amawbia, found herself homeless following a divorce from her husband. Seeking solace, she approached the policewoman, who, out of compassion, offered her a place to stay. However, a recent altercation between the two escalated to a violent physical confrontation. Fueled by anger, the suspect allegedly struck the policewoman on the head with a pestle, rendering her unconscious. Seizing the opportunity, she then proceeded to bind the policewoman and her children with rope before igniting a deadly fire.
Tragically, the policewoman and her children were unable to escape the inferno and perished in the harrowing ordeal.
Initially, upon apprehension, the suspect attempted to deceive investigators by claiming that a gas cylinder had exploded while the victims were boiling water. However, after intense questioning, she allegedly confessed to her heinous act and provided a chilling account of her actions, vividly describing how she set them alight.
Expressing remorse, the suspect attributed her actions to the influence of evil forces. She admitted to being bewildered by the inexplicable compulsion that led her to commit such a grievous crime. Furthermore, she declared that she deserved to face the ultimate punishment for her wickedness toward the person who had extended assistance during her time of need.
Confirming the incident, DSP Ikenga Tochukwu, the spokesperson for the state police command, conveyed that the bodies of the policewoman and her children had been transported to the mortuary.
“Preliminary investigations indicate that the policewoman had generously offered the suspect accommodation while she was in search of a residence. A dispute between the two women escalated into a physical altercation, during which the suspect viciously struck the policewoman on the head with a pestle. Subsequently, the unconscious victim and her two children were bound and subjected to a deadly act of arson. The victims’ remains have been recovered and are now in the custody of the morgue. Further updates will follow,” stated DSP Ikenga Tochukwu.
