The United Arab Emirates (UAE) has lifted the visa ban on Nigerian travelers, a decision announced in Abu Dhabi on Monday.
According to a statement by Ajuri Ngelale, spokesperson for President Bola Tinubu, this significant development followed extensive negotiations between the Nigerian President and UAE’s leader.
In the released statement, President Tinubu expressed his appreciation for UAE President Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, acknowledging his unwavering friendship and determination to collaborate in normalizing and elevating relations between the two nations.
The Nigerian government confirmed, “President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and President of the United Arab Emirates, Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, finalized a historic agreement during their meeting in Abu Dhabi. This agreement immediately ends the visa ban on Nigerian travelers.”
The agreement also outlined the swift resumption of flight schedules to and from Nigeria for both Etihad Airlines and Emirates Airlines, with no immediate financial obligations imposed on the Nigerian government, as mutually negotiated by the two Heads of State.
In recognition of President Tinubu’s economic development efforts and proposals, the agreement established a comprehensive framework that will result in several billion U.S. dollars’ worth of new investments in Nigeria’s economy. These investments will span multiple sectors, including defense and agriculture, facilitated by the UAE government’s investment arms.
