In a heartbreaking incident on Monday, October 2, four members of a family in Taraba State met a tragic end after being electrocuted in the Dinyavo area of Jalingo, the state capital.
The victims included the father, mother, and two children, who were inside their home when the electrocution occurred.
Residents of the community are pointing fingers at a potential high voltage supply issue from the national grid, which they believe triggered this devastating incident.
According to an eyewitness, the day began with a burst from the transformer, causing panic as everyone rushed out of their homes. Shortly after, thick smoke filled the air, and within seconds, chaos ensued as numerous houses were engulfed in smoke.
The eyewitness recounted their futile attempts to rescue the family, explaining;
“I tried my best to rescue them, all to no avail because they locked themselves in. But when we succeeded in breaking the door, we realized that they were already electrocuted and that their neighbors were also shocked by the electricity supply and rushed them to the hospital.”
The lifeless bodies of the deceased have been placed in a morgue, leaving the community in mourning and raising questions about the safety of the electrical infrastructure in the area.
