President Bola Tinubu expressed his unwavering optimism and hope for victory in the recent presidential election despite the Central Bank of Nigeria’s ineffective cashless policy. He conveyed his sentiments during a visit to the palaces of the Paramount ruler of Ijebuland, Oba Sikiru Adetona, in Ijebu-Ode, and the Alake of Egbaland, Oba Adedotun Gbadebo, in Abeokuta.
President Tinubu reflected on the challenges faced during the lead-up to the 2023 presidential election, particularly the confiscation of funds and the failure of the cashless policy. He recounted seeking wisdom and guidance from Oba Adetona during his visit to the palace and invoking the spirits of freedom and determination, represented by “Baba Emilokan,” to overcome these obstacles.
“Our funds were confiscated, and the implementation of the cashless policy was a terrible experience. Realizing this, I came to Ogun State to tap into the spirit of freedom that characterizes us. I invoked the spirit of Baba Emilokan twice. Baba embodies bluntness and decisiveness, and he will tell you the truth. The second spirit is the determination that whether we have money or not, we will proceed with the election and emerge victorious,” he stated.
President Tinubu expressed his gratitude to Oba Adetona, other traditional rulers, elected officials, and his “personal friend,” Senator Gbenga Daniel, for their loyalty and dedication during the crucial moments of the 2023 election. He regarded his visit to Ijebu-Ode as a homecoming and extended his thanks to the warm reception he received.
Acknowledging Chief Mike Adenuga, a prominent Nigerian billionaire businessman, President Tinubu commended his contributions to the nation’s economy, expressing pride in his accomplishments.
During his visit to Abeokuta, President Tinubu expressed his appreciation to the Alake of Egbaland, Oba Adedotun Gbadebo, for his leadership and welcomed his commitment to fulfilling his promises. He urged the citizens of the state to pray for progress and stability in the country.
“I have fulfilled my pledge to return with victory and the crown. Our hope is reignited and unyielding. This hope will never falter; it will invigorate your lives positively. By the grace of Almighty God, we will reap the rewards of our efforts, and Nigeria will experience transformative change. Let us endure these initial stages of hardship. This country is our only home, and I, too, have experienced the plight of a refugee. My green passport is all I possess,” President Tinubu declared.
