New details have surfaced regarding a recent incident at the Federal University of Gusau in Zamfara State, where terrorists infiltrated the campus and looted all medications from the university clinic.
In an interview with AIT News, the National Coordinator of the Coalition of Northern Groups (CNG), Jamilu Aliyu Charanchi, disclosed the alarming situation.
He stated, “Unfortunately, when we came, during our intervention with the school management, we realized that these bandits, when they entered the university, they carted away all the medications at the clinic and we came to realize that the university now, they are mourning the abduction of their students and even to do so many things for the university but not even to begin to think of how to provide drugs for the clinic.
“And at this rainy season time whereby with the vulnerability of Malaria, typhoid and other ailments, it will be unwise at least for the students to be living in the university with at least population 10,000 students in this university without medication.”
In response to this dire situation, CNG stakeholders have stepped in to provide drugs and other medications to support the university community in light of the terrorists’ invasion.
Previously, SaharaReporters had reported the kidnapping of students by gunmen suspected to be terrorists. The invaders targeted the students’ residence at Sabon-Gida, identified as Nazeer Sabon-Gida, and abducted several female students. While the Nigerian Army later rescued six of the students following a gun battle, not all of the kidnapped students were accounted for.
A source within the university students’ union has identified at least 30 students who were abducted during the invasion. Additionally, the relatives of some kidnapped students at the Federal University of Gusau, Zamfara State, have accused the school management of neglecting their daughters and sisters held in the terrorists’ custody.
