Eight villagers were tragically killed by gunmen in the Farin Lamba community located in the Vwang District of Jos South Local Government Area in Plateau. This information was disclosed in a statement by Rwang Tengwong, the National Publicity Secretary of the Berom Youth Movement (BYM), a socio-cultural group, on Monday in Jos.
According to Tengwong, the criminals invaded the community on Sunday night, around 9:45 pm, in a car and indiscriminately fired shots at the victims. Among the eight victims was an eight-month-old baby, who was tragically killed along with their father while they were returning from the hospital. Pulse reported.
Expressing concern over the increasing number of killings in various communities within Riyom, Barkin Ladi, Jos South, and Mangu local government areas, Tengwong lamented the extensive destruction of farmlands, houses, and other properties resulting from this trend.
Nevertheless, Tengwong acknowledged the proactive measures implemented by Maj.-Gen. Abdusalam Abubakar, the Commander of Operation Safe Haven (OPSH), and expressed confidence in the imminent restoration of lasting peace in all troubled areas of the state. He also commended both the Federal and State Governments for deploying mobile police personnel to communities that frequently experience attacks.
Tengwong called upon the residents of Plateau to abide by the law and support security agencies in their efforts to establish enduring peace in the state. Despite multiple attempts to reach Alfred Alabo, the Public Relations Officer of the Police Command in Plateau, he was unavailable to comment. However, a senior police officer has confirmed the occurrence of the attack.
