The Nigeria Police, Kogi State Command has taken into custody a 19-year-old boy named Goodness Oshodi, who, under the direction of his mother, buried his stepbrother, Friday Oshhodi, alive, as a punishment for the alleged theft of her N10,000.
The disturbing incident unfolded on a Tuesday evening in Apamisede Community, a district in Lokoja. Fortunately, the young victim was saved by quick-thinking Good Samaritans who managed to rescue him from the grave.
According to a witness, the stepmother of the two boys instructed her eldest son to discipline Friday for supposedly pilfering the sum of N10,000. The older brother, in compliance with his mother’s directive, subjected Friday to a severe beating that nearly cost him his eyesight. Subsequently, he decided to bury Friday alive, but neighbors intervened to prevent this horrifying act.
When questioned about his actions, Goodness explained that he was merely following his mother’s orders to punish his brother for stealing her ten thousand Naira. He also revealed that his mother had left strict instructions for him to carry out this punishment, even though she was away at church at the time.
The State Police Public Relations Officer, SP William Aya, confirmed the incident and reported that the young boy had been arrested and was currently undergoing interrogation.
Aya stated, “Yes, we are aware of the situation. The boy has been arrested, and an investigation is underway to understand the reasons and circumstances surrounding this shocking incident.”
He further detailed that the brother had dug a pit and attempted to bury his younger sibling alive, but thankfully, Friday was rescued by vigilant neighbors, while the suspect was taken into police custody.
