An 18-year-old girl testified before a Federal Capital Territory (FCT) High Court in Kubwa on Tuesday, accusing her boss’ 36-year-old Chef, Daniel Johnson, of harassing her for sexual favors.
Johnson faces three charges related to unlawful intercourse with a minor, as filed by the Sexual and Gender-Based Violence Response Unit of the Federal Ministry of Justice.
The teenager, led by the prosecution counsel, Temitayo Lawal, recounted her experience while awaiting admission to the university when she decided to assist Mrs. Chika Ofomata with household chores.
She revealed, “The defendant, who is the complainant’s husband’s Chef, came to me while I was washing the children’s toilet and asked me if the room had cameras. I said no, then he started touching me. We were alone at home at the time, so I refused and told him I was busy.”
” When I went home and told my mum everything, she asked me to tell the complainant who asked me to play along to get evidence against the defendant.
“Since then I started recording everything he said to me on my phone and I also have a video of when he asked me to meet him in the boys quarters,” she said.
The teenager asserted that the defendant persistently called her and made promises of financial compensation and that she has a video of him asking her for sex.
“He usually calls the complainant’s children to give them biscuits and I noticed that the eight-year-old daughter stays longer in the room with the defendant.
“While doing laundry, I saw some discharge in the eight- year-old’s underwear,” she said.
During cross-examination, the defense counsel, Ebenezer Amadi, questioned the witness about when she started working for the complainant and whether she had accepted the role of the defendant’s girlfriend. Additionally, Amadi inquired if the witness had witnessed the defendant engaging in sexual activity with the minor.
In response, the teenager clarified that she had only been helping the complainant due to their family’s connection while awaiting university admission and vehemently denied being the defendant’s girlfriend. She also stated that she did not witness any sexual activity between the defendant and the minor.
Following the testimony, Justice Oluyemisi Adelaja adjourned the case until October 10 for the continuation of the hearing.
