The Nigerian Army issued a strong message to all terrorists and bandits, specifically those operating in the Northwestern region, urging them to surrender unconditionally. They emphasized that there would be no room for negotiation with individuals who posed a threat to the nation’s peace.
During a press briefing in the capital city of Gusau, Zamfara State, Major General Godwin Mutkut, the General Officer Commanding 8 Division, Nigerian Army Sokoto, conveyed this declaration. The announcement followed the inauguration of the RSM House at the 1 Brigade Cantonment.
General Mutkut addressed the media, stating, “They retreated to the bush without any negotiation, and now that the pressure is mounting, they seek negotiations. However, let it be clear that I do not consider it as negotiation. They should simply surrender and lay down their arms. Negotiation has proven ineffective in the past, so why repeat the same mistakes?”
The Commander reiterated the army’s unwavering commitment to eliminating terrorists from the region. He made it explicitly clear that the military would not engage in negotiations with the bandits but would instead pursue them in their hideouts to eliminate them. General Mutkut advised the bandits that if they wanted to survive the military’s offensive, they should come out of their hiding places and surrender.
“Our troops have fearlessly entered troubled areas like Zurmi, Shinkafi, Tsafe, Dansadau, and other volatile regions in Zamfara State, despite the challenges posed by the rainy season. They have successfully driven the terrorists out of their hideouts,” General Mutkut explained.
“Previously, there were many areas we couldn’t access, but the situation has changed. Despite the rain, we are venturing into unexpected areas, dealing a heavy blow to the bandits. Surrender is their only option if they want to survive.”
