Femi Gbajabiamila, the previous Speaker of the House of Representatives, has officially resigned from his position as a member of the 10th House. This decision comes after his recent assumption of the role of Chief of Staff to President Bola Tinubu.
On Wednesday, Gbajabiamila presented his resignation letter on the House floor in the presence of Abass and other members. The newly appointed Speaker, Tajudeen Abbas, then proceeded to read the letter aloud to the assembly.
Following the reading of his resignation letter, the former Speaker respectfully acknowledged the new Speaker and fellow members, receiving a heartfelt round of applause and a standing ovation. He then departed the chamber.
Gbajabiamila had a distinguished legislative career spanning two decades in the House, during which he served as Minority Leader, Majority Leader, and Speaker at different times. Prior to his new appointment, he had been reelected to represent Surulere 1 Federal Constituency in Lagos State and was officially sworn in as a member of the House during the inauguration of the 10th National Assembly on Tuesday.
