Senator Ned Munir Nwoko, representing Delta North senatorial district, took center stage at the commissioning of 60 cutting-edge dialysis machines at Caroline Medical Center, Abuja, on Monday, April 29, where he presided as the Chairman of the occasion.
In his address, Senator Ned Nwoko commended the Medical Center for daring to achieve such a great feat. He stated that the Nigerian medical sector is not particularly encouraging at the moment; hence, efforts like this, particularly from private practitioners, are profoundly heartening and inspiring.
As an active member of the Senate Committee on Health, Senator Nwoko had earlier announced his prioritization of a motion to upgrade all Federal Medical Centers in Nigeria to international standards and advocate for all public servants to seek medical treatment exclusively within Nigerian healthcare facilities. He stressed that if Nigeria achieves excellence in the healthcare sector as a nation, substantial improvements will ensue.
Addressing the pressing issue of dialysis costs, Senator Nwoko called upon the Federal Government to subsidize dialysis expenses, recognizing the financial burden faced by patients dealing with kidney-related ailments. He asserted that despite the expense associated with dialysis, no patient should be prevented from receiving care due to financial constraints.
Before concluding the event, Senator Nwoko made a pledge to cover the dialysis costs for all patients, over 100 of them, who had come for treatment that day.
Background story revealed that Senator Nwoko became acquainted with Caroline Medical Center while visiting a friend who underwent a successful kidney transplant there. Witnessing firsthand the hospital’s expertise and impact, Senator Nwoko advocated for government support, acknowledging the vital role institutions like Caroline Medical Center play in advancing healthcare outcomes.
His friend, also present at the commissioning ceremony, praised the lawmaker for his instrumental role in facilitating the successful operation.
