The Senate, on Tuesday, decided to adjourn plenary until May 7 in order to continue refurbishing its chamber. Despite reconvening after the Easter and Sallah breaks, the Red Chamber faced operational challenges, particularly concerning poor audio quality within the chamber.
Following a six-week recess, senators reconvened in the newly renovated chamber, which reopened more than two years after reconstruction commenced. Deputy Senate President Jibrin Barau, presiding over the session, announced the adjournment until May 7 to ensure the completion of ongoing works in the chamber.
He stated, “Some finishing touches need to be done in the chamber. So, we will give them some time. Wednesday is Workers’ Day, so we won’t be meeting. We will also allow them Thursday till Monday to finish everything.
“We will reconvene on Tuesday, May 7.”
Earlier during Tuesday’s plenary, there were reports of brawls and quarrels among ranking senators over the sitting arrangement in the newly-renovated chamber.
