Renowned football icon Ronaldinho, formerly of Barcelona and AC Milan, is reportedly at risk of losing two properties in Brazil to settle purported tax liabilities.
Tax authorities have initiated a valuation of his real estate holdings in Rio de Janeiro and his native state, Rio Grande do Sul, aiming to utilize them for debt recovery if required.
The identified properties are situated in the western part of Rio and Xangri-La, a municipality on Brazil’s south coast, approximately 80 miles from Porto Alegre, Ronaldinho’s birthplace.
Frustrated by the absence of funds in the footballer’s bank accounts, tax inspectors have turned their attention to his real estate, as disclosed in Brazilian media reports.
This development comes after unsuccessful attempts to locate funds in Ronaldinho’s bank accounts led to tax officials seizing his luxury cars and artwork in November 2018. This action followed claims of owing money related to fines imposed on his charity, involving Ronaldinho and his brother Roberto de Assis Moreira.
In the preceding month, his passport was confiscated by state prosecutors during efforts to recover funds in a separate case linked to illegal construction in a protected area. Shockingly, a mere five pounds were found in his bank account at that time.
Subsequently, Ronaldinho faced a month of imprisonment in Paraguay, followed by four months of house arrest at a hotel in the capital, Asuncion.
