Sections of the Sapele-Benin road in Delta State have become a hunting ground for suspected armed robbers who employ sharp objects to forcibly immobilize vehicles and terrorize their occupants, according to reports received by PUNCH Metro. On Thursday morning, numerous motorists fell victim to these highway bandits.
Eyewitnesses detailed the modus operandi of the hoodlums. After incapacitating their target vehicles by puncturing the tires, the criminals wasted no time in assaulting the occupants, seizing their valuables in the process.
Additionally, it was discovered that the robbery suspects coerced many stranded commuters into relinquishing unspecified sums of cash.
One victim, the driver of a Toyota Sienna SUV with Registration Number Delta WWR243PR, was seen engaged in a heated altercation with the suspects near Jesse Junction. This altercation ensued shortly after one of his vehicle’s tires was disabled by a sharp object thrown by the assailants while the vehicle was in motion.
The scene also bore witness to a truck that had fallen prey to the gang’s forceful immobilization tactics earlier in the day.
Many of the stranded commuters, who requested anonymity, expressed relief that the attack occurred during daylight hours rather than in the darkness of night or the early morning.
As of the time of this report, the State Police Public Relations Officer, Bright Edafe, could not be reached for comment on the incident.
