Governor Siminalayi Fubara of Rivers State has claimed that his predecessor and Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike will continue to be his principal.
He made this known on Thursday, November 9, during the rededication ceremony for the Rivers State Judiciary’s 2023–2024 legal year, which Wike also attended.
The state capital’s Saint Cyprian’s Anglican Church on Hospital Road served as the venue for the occasion.
Governor Fubara stressed that the recent political crisis in the state is a thing of the past, calling again for peace in the oil-rich state and noting thar Rivers State can if the actors and their supporters are peaceful.
“My oga remains my oga. Whatever that has happened is in the past. I have not sent anybody to malign anybody,” the governor said.
He stressed that although it has been a trying time for the state, the current phase of political misunderstanding will pass and the promises his administration made to the people will be delivered.
The governor admonished those pledging support for him to stop using abusive words on perceived opponents, saying that he did not authorise them to malign anybody.
According to him, in trying to attain development, the devil will always attack, but that what is most important is to “identify the devil and push it out”.
This was the first time the two politicians who were the major characters in the recent political fight would be meeting each other in public in the state.
Wike, serving as the FCT Minister, arrived at the church service towards its conclusion. He exchanged a handshake with his successor before taking a seat beside him for the remainder of the service.
As Governor Fubara began his speech, he humorously requested the congregation to temporarily halt the acknowledgment of guests to avoid inadvertently committing another impeachable offense.
