Nigerian music sensation, David Adeleke, better known as Davido, has taken the decision to remove a controversial music video after facing criticism and backlash from the Muslim community.
Last Friday, July 21, 2023, Davido, who is also the owner of Davido Music Worldwide (DMW) label, released a music video for his signee Olamilekan Taiwo, popularly known as Logos Olori. The 45-second clip featured a scene showing men dancing in front of a mosque, which was deemed offensive by some Muslim groups in the country.
Responding to the concerns raised by his fans and the Muslim faithful, Davido promptly deleted the video from his social media pages. Currently, only a link to the song remains visible on his page.
The incident sparked reactions on Twitter, where some users expressed gratitude to those who stood up to protect their religion and demanded an apology from Davido for the controversial video. Others commended the singer for removing the offensive content and called for the scene to be entirely removed from the original footage before its release to the market.
In a tweet, Bashir Ahmed appreciated Davido for taking down the video and emphasized the importance of celebrating the beauty of living in unity and harmony while embracing diversity. He urged everyone to listen with empathy, understand each other’s perspectives with an open heart, and respect different values and beliefs. By doing so, he believes that we can create a safe and inclusive space for everyone to express themselves authentically.
Bashir also encouraged meaningful conversations, the sharing of stories, and finding common ground, even in moments of disagreement, as it presents an opportunity for personal growth and understanding.
