The Lagos State Government has once more shut down the renowned Quilox nightclub due to violations related to environmental and safety standards.
Owned by Shina Abiola Peller, a former member of the House of Representatives and CEO of Aquila Group of Companies, the nightclub situated on Victoria Island in Lagos faced this action during a collaborative operation by the Lagos State Environmental Protection Agency (LASEPA) and the Lagos State Safety Commission (LSC).
In a recent statement, LASEPA highlighted, “Remember our prior press release, where both entities cautioned entertainment venues to prioritize the safety and well-being of the public? We remain committed to penalizing establishments that flout these directives.”
The statement further indicated, “The agencies also alerted the operators of Sol beach, the good beaches, landmark beach, and other recreational spots across the state to prioritize safety during the festive season.”
It is noteworthy that LASEPA had previously sealed Quilox in December 2022 for hosting an event without the necessary sound control permit. This enforcement action was conducted in conjunction with the Lagos State Environmental and Special Offences Unit.
This is not the first time Quilox has faced such repercussions. The club was previously sealed by LASEPA in December 2019 due to concerns over noise pollution and traffic congestion.
At that juncture, the agency had received multiple complaints, accompanied by video evidence, from distressed residents regarding the environmental disturbances caused by the establishment.
