The Presidency has firmly rejected speculations about relocating the nation’s capital from Abuja to Lagos under President Bola Tinubu’s government.
Special Adviser Bayo Onanuga provided clarification, emphasizing that recent controversies surrounding the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) and Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) relocating departments to Lagos are entirely unrelated to any capital movement.
Onanuga, in his statement yesterday, explained that the misunderstanding arose from the actions of the CBN and FAAN and should not be misconstrued as indicative of a larger plan to move the federal capital. He clarified that the movement of the FAAN to Lagos holds no connection to transferring the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) to the city.
The Special Adviser went further to attribute the controversy to what he described as ‘dishonest, ethnic, and regional champions’ who, according to him, fueled a conspiracy around the relocation.
This assertion seeks to dispel any notions that may have arisen due to the recent developments in the departments, reiterating the government’s stance on the capital’s location remaining in Abuja.
