The spokesperson of the Nigeria Police Force, ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, has declared the force’s intention to pursue legal action against members of the LGBTQ community in Nigeria who openly disclosed their sexual orientation in a widely circulated video.
The video, stemming from a popular online challenge, showcased LGBTQ individuals addressing their sexuality and debunking misconceptions surrounding them.
This development has ignited discussions about the effectiveness of the anti-gay law signed by former President Goodluck Jonathan in January 2007, with some Nigerians questioning its current relevance.
In response to an inquiry about the video on X, Adejobi referred to the LGBTQ members as “criminals” and affirmed that the police are actively investigating the matter.
