The Lagos State Police Command is intensifying its investigation into the case involving Lagos socialite Balogun Eletu, known as Sam Larry, and the tragic death of the late singer Ilerioluwa Aloba, also known as Mohbad.
Sam Larry was taken into police custody on Thursday night after responding to a police summons and has since been questioned by investigators regarding his disputes with the deceased musician.
According to Punch, Sam Larry, who is currently being held at the Lagos State Police Command Headquarters, had not secured the services of a lawyer as of Saturday and is likely to remain in police custody until next Monday.
A security source, speaking anonymously, disclosed, “Sam Larry was apprehended by police officers at Murtala Muhammed airport last night (Thursday) upon his return from Kenya. He was immediately transported to the Lagos Command Headquarters in Ikeja for interrogation.”
In an exclusive interview on Friday night, the Lagos State Police Command Public Relations Officer, SP Benjamin Hundeyin, stated that the outcome of the police investigation would dictate the subsequent actions regarding Sam Larry.
He remarked, “Sam Larry is still in our custody, but I cannot reveal our plans at this time because he is still under investigation. The outcome of our investigation will determine our next course of action.”
He continued, “I am not disclosing the content of his statement yet. The Commissioner of Police will address the press regarding this matter soon, and at that point, I will be able to provide more details about the progress of our investigation.”
SP Hundeyin had previously confirmed on Thursday night that Sam Larry was in police custody and cooperating with the ongoing investigation.
Earlier, the police had summoned both Sam Larry and singer Azeez Fashola, also known as Naira Marley, for questioning in relation to Mohbad’s demise.
The police had also confirmed that pathologists had completed the autopsy on Mohbad, with results pending. “Autopsy has been concluded. Awaiting results,” Hundeyin confirmed.
This development comes after a joint team comprising the Nigeria Police Force and health officials exhumed Mohbad’s remains for further investigation.
