The Ogun State Police Command has initiated a search for the perpetrators behind the tragic killing of Chief Abiodun Folarin, the Bashorun Akarigbo of Sagamu.
Recall that SavvyNews reported earlier on the murder of Chief Abiodun Folarin, the Bashorun Akarigbo of Sagamu and now, the police has initiated a manhunt for the culprits.
The incident occurred late on Monday night when three unidentified individuals, traveling in a Toyota Camry, forcefully entered the residence of Chief Folarin in Itunsokun, Sagamu.
Eyewitnesses reported that upon arrival, the assailants fired gunshots into the air to instill fear among the residents. They then proceeded to target Chief Folarin, fatally shooting him before swiftly departing the scene without taking any valuables.
In a statement, Omolola Odutola, the spokesperson for the Ogun State Police Command, confirmed the event:
“The incident happened on Monday night at about 10.45pm at the Itunsokun residence of the deceased. The victim’s name is Bashorun Abiodun Folarin. He is said to be the Bashorun Akarigbo.
“Three gunmen were said to have come in a Toyota Camry car, shot into the air to disperse the people and then went to shoot the man who was said to be sitting at that moment dead.
“This is a case of suspected murder or assassination because the unknown gunmen did not take anything away. At the scene of the crime, two expended cartridges were recovered. The deceased being a Muslim, who was assassinated on Monday, has been buried.
“The truth is that the culprits will soon be brought to book. The police have swung into action. The Sagamu Area Commander has started an investigation on the matter and very soon those responsible for this heinous crime will be brought to justice.”
The untimely demise of the revered chief has stirred apprehension within Sagamu, with some speculating a possible connection to ongoing issues with local cult groups.
An anonymous resident revealed concerns that Chief Folarin’s recent efforts against cultism might have made him a target, as such activities have drawn attention and opposition from the community’s criminal elements.
