The Kwara State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) is currently undergoing a significant restructuring process with the aim of becoming a formidable opposition party to challenge the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in future elections and improve the lives of the people of Kwara.
As maintained by This Day, during a recent event in Ilorin, Hon. Babatunde Muhammed, the Chairman of the party, emphasized this point as he oversaw the filling of vacant positions within the state chapter’s working executive council. The affected positions included the state deputy chairman, Alhaji Idris Mudashiru, the state secretary, Mallam Abdulrahman Abdullahi Kayode, the state publicity secretary, Mr. Olusegun Olusola Adewara, and the state acting youth leader, Mallam Mohammed Abdulmumini.
Muhammed revealed that the party’s leadership has initiated door-to-door consultations across the 193 wards in the state to garner more support for the party. He expressed confidence that these efforts would strengthen the party and position it effectively to challenge the APC in future elections.
Muhammed encouraged the new members of the state working committee to rededicate themselves to achieving effective and efficient results, emphasizing the importance of the PDP’s values of honor and dignity. He believed that with this new strategy, the PDP would emerge stronger and bring good governance to the people of the state.
Highlighting the current dissatisfaction with governance under the ruling APC, Muhammed stressed the need for collective efforts to change this narrative and contribute to the overall development of the state. He urged the newly inaugurated state working committee to put the past behind them and work together to move the PDP forward in the state.
In response, Alhaji Kayode, the new state secretary of the PDP, pledged to collaborate with party leaders, particularly former Senate President Dr. Bukola Saraki, to reposition the party and lead it to victory in the state. He outlined a five-point agenda devised with other members of the state working committee to strengthen internal democracy and prepare the party for success in upcoming elections.
