The Oyo State Police Command has taken swift action following an incident involving two Special Constabularies who attempted to extort money from a Dutch female biker tourist.
Oyo State’s Commissioner of Police, Adebola Hamzat, announced the immediate dismissal of the two officers, Jimoh Lukman and Kareem Fatai, after a video capturing their misconduct surfaced online.
The officers were publicly showcased at the Oyo State Police Command in Eleyele, Ibadan, the state capital, following their viral video where they demanded money from a Dutch tourist traveling on a power bike from the Netherlands en route to Abuja.
Reports from SaharaReporters indicated that the officers were arrested subsequent to the video’s circulation.
Further confirming their removal from the constabulary force, the two officers were stripped of their Nigerian Police uniforms. The decision to dismiss them was based on the findings of an orderly room investigation.
Commissioner Hamzat emphasized the Inspector General of Police’s firm stance against corruption within the force. He labeled the officers’ behavior as disgraceful and stressed that such actions would not be tolerated from any member of the force.
Furthermore, Hamzat said, “The two dismissed constabularies would not be prosecuted in court since they were not originally trained officers of the Nigerian police.”
