Prominent Warri lawyer, Chief Robinson Ariyo, has called upon Governor Sheriff Oborevwori of Delta State to ensure that the Itsekiri community is not overlooked in his favorable appointments.
Expressing his concern over the recent appointments made by the governor, which lacked representation from the Itsekiri people, Chief Ariyo, the Egogo of Warri kingdom, emphasized the need for Itsekiri leaders to prioritize the collective welfare of their community.
“I am deeply troubled by the exclusion of the Itsekiri people, who significantly contribute to the oil resources of Delta State and the nation as a whole, from the recent appointments that were supposed to be equitably distributed, as symbolized by the allegory of ‘Ukodo’ promised by the Governor. While some ethnic groups have received two or more sensitive appointments, the Itsekiris have been completely disregarded.”
“In any society, there is always a delicate balance between individualistic and communal interests. However, prosperity never overlooks those who consistently prioritize the communal interest over personal gain. I have noticed that many influential Itsekiris often sacrifice the well-being of the community for their own personal interests, masquerading as patriots. This deception is truly misleading. We must shift our focus towards what we can do for the betterment of our community, rather than solely pursuing personal gains.”
