In a remarkable feat, Subair Enitan, a student of Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, Osun state, has kicked off a 50-hour hand wash-a-thon in an ambitious attempt to secure a place in the Guinness World Record.
Enitan, a 200-level Linguistics and African Languages student, officially began her record-breaking endeavor on November 24, 2023, with the full support of the school’s Students’ Union leadership.
Enitan, who had informed the Guinness World Record of her intentions in June, expressed confidence in becoming the title holder of the longest hand-washing hours. She shared,
“My background, the lessons life taught me have been motivating me to embark on this wash-a-thon. My experience is unexplainable but it taught me to be selfless. I am confident that I will reach the set goal of 50 hours of hand wash and by God’s grace I will emerge victorious.
“Despite the massive support from my colleagues here, I pray for the grace of God to be able to complete the task. My parents are very supportive and I urge Nigerians to rally round me while I work towards completing the task”.
The Students’ Union President, Abbas Akinremi-Ojo, revealed that essential support, including ambulance services, lighting, and water logistics, has been arranged to ensure Enitan’s success.
The management of OAU, led by the Dean of Students Affairs, Professor John Odedire, affirmed the university’s commitment to providing all necessary resources to secure Enitan’s place in the record books.
