The Nnamdi Azikiwe University in Awka, Anambra State, has implemented various sanctions against its staff and students due to misconduct.
Following recommendations from a panel appointed by the university’s management, lecturers, workers, and students have faced termination and suspension.
The university’s Senate had previously issued a warning against sexual harassment, threatening sanctions for those found guilty of such behavior.
Dr. Emma Ojukwu, the Special Adviser to the Vice Chancellor on Public Relations and Special Duties, disclosed that a priest, three lecturers, and students were involved in these disciplinary actions.
Ojukwu stated, “The Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka, has taken disciplinary actions against the following staff and students for various offences.”
“A Principal Executive Officer II, who abandoned his duty post for an extended period, was suspended from duty for six months as a consequence of gross misconduct to serve as a deterrent to other officers.
“A Senior Executive Officer was suspended for six months on half salary for fraudulent financial transactions involving the university.
“A priest and another individual were accused of aiding and abetting examination misconduct after receiving gratifications from students.
“One lecturer faced allegations of clearing and graduating a student with 12 outstanding courses.”
The panel recommended the lecturer’s dismissal from the university, with the withdrawal of the student’s results and the withholding of credentials such as certificates and transcripts.
