The Nigerian Navy has vowed to thoroughly investigate allegations of military involvement in oil theft and take decisive actions against any personnel found guilty.
According to PUNCH, vice Admiral Emmanuel Ogalla, the Chief of Naval Staff made this commitment during a press briefing in Port Harcourt after touring several Naval facilities in Rivers State.
He stated that while the Navy has achieved success in curbing illegal oil bunkering, they will not be complacent and will strengthen waterways surveillance to combat the menace. Ogalla also acknowledged that some allegations on social media were baseless, but they still take them seriously and conduct proper investigations.
Going forward, the Navy aims to enhance surveillance capabilities using human intelligence and technology to preempt criminal activities in the maritime domain, particularly in the creeks and riverine areas. They believe these efforts will yield positive results in curbing oil theft and illicit bunkering.
