Wolfson College, a distinguished constituent college of the University of Cambridge, is set to welcome Professor Ijeoma Uchegbu as its 7th President.
Originating from South East Nigeria and currently a Professor in Pharmaceutical Neuroscience at University College London, Professor Uchegbu will assume the presidency on October 1, 2024, succeeding Professor Jane Clarke.
Commencing her pharmacy studies at the University of Benin in 1981, Professor Uchegbu later pursued her master’s degree at the University of Lagos.
Despite encountering infrastructure limitations that hindered her doctoral studies in Nigeria, she returned to the UK, where she completed postgraduate studies at the University of London. In 1997, she earned her PhD under the guidance of Alexander (Sandy) Florence, the Dean of the School of Pharmacy.
Prior to her appointment at Wolfson College, Professor Uchegbu served as a lecturer at the University of Strathclyde from 2002 to 2004.
Her diverse academic journey reflects a commitment to pharmaceutical nanoscience and positions her to lead Wolfson College into a new era of academic excellence.
