During a recent interview on the Afrobeats Podcast with Adesope Olajide, Nigerian artist Skiibii delved into various topics, shedding light on his remarkable journey to success.
Skiibii, whose real name is Abbey Elias, openly shared his modest beginnings, recounting his time living in Ojuelegba. During that period, he had to engage in diverse hustles to make ends meet, paving the way for his eventual rise to fame. Reflecting on his journey, he proudly stated, “My achievements have made my mother proud, considering all that I have accomplished.”
Following his breakthrough, Skiibii gradually gained the means to enjoy a more comfortable lifestyle. He purchased his first house, and as time went on, he acquired four additional homes in the prestigious Lekki Peninsula, one of the affluent areas in Lagos State.
“I vividly remember when you bought that house,” the host remarked, to which Skiibii responded, “Oh, in Lekki alone, I own a total of five!”
The artist went on to explain that he rarely needs to spend money on external expenses since he has everything he requires within the comfort of his homes. This includes a recording studio, which not only fulfills his creative needs but also generates income.
Skiibii initially signed with Five-Star Music on December 24, 2014, where he released several of his chart-topping hits, such as ‘Ah Skiibii’. However, in 2017, he made the decision to establish his own record label called ‘more Grace Music World’, where he dedicated his efforts to crafting his debut album. One of his most recent and immensely popular tracks, ‘Sensima’, took the music industry by storm a year later.
