President Bola Tinubu has urged traditional rulers in the Niger Delta region to collaborate in maintaining peace and security, aiming to ensure maximum oil production and economic prosperity. This message was conveyed by the Minister of Niger Delta Affairs, Engr. Abubakar Momoh, during a meeting with the Delta State Traditional Rulers Council. The event was attended by various prominent traditional leaders from the region.
Minister Momoh emphasized the importance of traditional rulers as peacekeepers within their communities and stressed the government’s commitment to peace and security in the volatile Niger Delta. He acknowledged the region’s challenges, including deteriorating federal roads like the East-West road, and promised to address these issues.
In response, the Traditional Rulers Council expressed concerns about insecurity linked to poor infrastructure, kidnappings, and abandoned projects by the Niger Delta Development Commission. They urged the federal government to take immediate action on these matters and presented a letter conveying their sentiments to the Minister for onward transmission to President Tinubu.
