The National Female Students Association of Nigeria (NFSAN), has expressed displeasure towards the kidnap of female students by suspected bandits at Federal University Gusau, Zamfara State.
A press release signed by the president of the association, Comr. Enebili Choice Uchenna, revealed that a total of forty students were whisked away on Friday, 22 September 2023 from the female hostels but eight (8) were immediately rescued by the military personnel on ground at the moment.
She noted that insecurity in Zamfara has being on the rise and will not be silent about this one.
“In April of this year, it was reported that at least two female students of the same university were kidnapped by gunmen who are believed to be bandits”.
“This is to show that the issues of insecurity is not new to Zamfara State and the Federal University Gusau. Zamfara State has historically been a hotspot for bandits to engage in the kidnap-for-ransom schemes. Now the female students are the target. THE LIVES OF THESE ONES WOULD NOT BE TRUNCATED like those of the Chibok girls. WE NO GO GREE”, the statement read.
“When we’re being told that education is our rights, are we supposed to pay for it now with our lives? Despite the hike in school fees and in every other thing presently in our various institutions and the country at large, one would think that insecurity should have been a thing of the past but the reverse is the case. No one is safe anywhere anymore, even in our esteemed Federal On behalf of the National Female Students Association Nigeria (NFSAN), I totally condemn this barbarous act in its entirety and I also want to send our deepest sympathies to the immediate family members of these abducted students, the management of Federal University Gusau, the government and people of Zamfara State over this catastrophic incident on the Citadel of Learning. This is remorselessly monstrous.
“This will not be forgiven or swept under the carpet like others. NEVER!”
She applauded the military personnel on ground for their timely intervention that helped save eight of the girls but but beckoned on them to do more “at this crucial time to bring these ladies back ALIVE AND UNHURT and they should also help to stop this madness from reoccurring as it has always been”.
“NFSAN, being an association safeguarding AND prioritizing the welfare of the Nigerian Female Students, will not take it lightly this time around. Gone are the days of Chibok girls and everyone was silent and many were playing politics with the destinies of those girls. Things have really changed. As a matter of fact, starting from Monday, 25th September, 2023, the NFSAN will be moving her National Secretariat to Federal University Gusau and will remain there until these students are brought back ALIVE AND UNHURT to continue their studies and live their lives like every other student on that campus and in every other institution in Nigeria”.
“I can assure the government of Zamfara State that this will not be business as usual. I would therefore advise that the Federal Government is rigorously engaged on this matter and mechanisms should be brought to play as to making sure that these students are released within the next 48hours. Otherwise, all the over 16million female students in Nigeria will find our way to Zamfara State so that the bandits can kidnap all of us and stop our education in the face of our insensitive leaders”.
“As a matter of immediacy, I hereby direct the NFSAN Coordinator in Zone A and the NFSAN Chairperson in Zamfara State to move to the Federal University Gusau, prepare the ground for the commencement of operations for the National Female Students Association of Nigeria (NFSAN) tomorrow Monday as we start to prepare to mobilize every female student in Nigeria to Zamfara State to seek justice for our fellow female students kidnapped from their own dormitory in their own school”.
“Injustice to one is injustice to all.
Injury to one is injury to all”.
“LET THE GIRL CHILD BREATH.”
