In a recent operation along the Aba-Owerri Expressway in Imo State, South-East Nigeria, operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) successfully rescued five pregnant teenagers believed to be victims of child trafficking.
NDLEA spokesman Femi Babafemi disclosed this development in an official statement, revealing that the teenagers had been intercepted while in transit from their hideout in the Naze area of Owerri to the Ikenegbu area within the Imo State capital.
The five rescued teenagers, identified as Chioma Emmanuel, Uma Faith, Divine Adimonye, Opara Gift, and Amarachi Mbata, were safely recovered on Wednesday.
Babafemi’s statement conveyed the following: “In their statements, they claimed they didn’t know the men who impregnated them. The Imo State command of the agency has since been directed to hand them over to the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP) for further investigations.”
