The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has reported the interception of two shipments of a potent strain of cannabis known as “loud.” The combined weight of the seized consignments was 5,344.1 kilograms. These interceptions took place along the Epe-Lekki corridor and at Alfa Beach in the Lekki area of Lagos state.
In an announcement shared on its Facebook page, the Agency stated that its operatives, under the leadership of Femi Babafemi, Director of Media and Advocacy, successfully executed the operations. The statement revealed that the first interception occurred on Monday, June 19th, based on credible intelligence. NDLEA operatives set up an ambush for a white truck carrying 50 jumbo bags of the illegal substance, weighing a total of 2,434.1 kilograms. During the operation, the truck driver managed to flee by jumping out of the vehicle and escaping in a security Hilux van that was escorting the truck. However, the anti-narcotics officers successfully immobilized the truck and secured the drug exhibits.
Continuing their efforts, the Marine Command of the Agency, acting on intelligence, intercepted a boat on Tuesday, June 20th, loaded with the same imported substance. The boat had arrived from Ghana and was carrying 2,910 kilograms of the illicit substance. Two Ghanaians named Monday Saba (30) and Hakeem Kwana (27) were apprehended along with the consignments.
