NBA legend Kareem Abdul-Jabbar has been hospitalized after breaking his hips from a terrible fall at a concert on Friday.
Deborah Morales, the player’s long time business partner told CNN that the 76-year-old, who is the only six-time Most Valuable Player in league history, is set to have surgery in a Los Angeles hospital.
“We are all deeply appreciative of all the support for Kareem, especially from the Los Angeles Fire Department who assisted Kareem on site and the amazing medical team and doctors at UCLA Hospital who are taking great care of Kareem now,” Morales said.
The statement did not say what concert Abdul-Jabbar was attending when he was hurt.
Abdul-Jabbar played in the NBA from 1969-89, winning six championships – five with the Los Angeles Lakers.
He held the NBA career regular-season scoring record of 38,387 points until LeBron James broke it in February.
A 7-foot-2 goggles-wearing center, Abdul-Jabbar who is a social activist and writer, revealed in 2020 that he had prostate cancer. In 2009, he said he was diagnosed the chronic myeloid leukemia, a cancer of the blood.
