In a harrowing tale from Zaria, Kaduna State, a grieving mother has taken matters into her own hands, leading to the capture of a suspect responsible for the abduction and subsequent murder of her 23-year-old daughter, Fatima Adamu, even after a ransom had been paid.
The heart-wrenching ordeal began when 35-year-old Aminu Ibrahim allegedly abducted Fatima and later took her life before burying her.
The grieving mother, Mallama Nana Fatima, managed to apprehend the suspect as she delivered a second ransom, overwhelmed by the magnitude of her sorrow.
Hajara Adamu, the victim’s younger sister, explained that Fatima had traveled to Kaduna with plans for a four-day visit. When she failed to return as scheduled, the family attempted to contact her, only to receive a chilling call from the kidnapper, who demanded N100,000 for her release.
Desperate to secure Fatima’s freedom, the family raised the ransom and handed it over to the suspect at an agreed location in Wusasa, Zaria.
However, their hopes were shattered when the kidnapper reneged on his promise and demanded an additional N100,000.
Undeterred, the mother and sister, after selling a plot of land, collected the money and arrived at the designated meeting point in Wusasa. There, they identified the suspect as he disembarked from a commercial motorcycle, commonly known as an “okada.”
Fatima raised the alarm, drawing the attention of onlookers who aided in apprehending the suspect and promptly handed him over to the Dan Magaji Divisional Police Station for questioning.
The suspect eventually confessed to the crime and led the police to his residence in Limancin Iya, Zaria, where he was suspected of burying the young woman.
During preliminary investigations, Ibrahim admitted to being part of a kidnapping gang in the area and disclosed that the victim had died while in their custody.
ASP Mansir Hassan, the acting police public relations officer for the Kaduna State command, confirmed the suspect’s arrest and stated that the investigation was ongoing.
