During the plenary session on Tuesday, the President of the Senate, Godswill Akpabio, announced the appointment of Senator Opeyemi Bamidele (APC, Ekiti Central) as the Leader of the Senate, and Senator David Umahi (APC, Ebonyi South) as the Deputy Leader.
In addition, Senator Ali Ndume (APC, Borno South) and Senator Oyeola Yisa Ashiru (APC, Kwara South) were appointed as the Chief Whip and Deputy Chief Whip respectively.
Akpabio stated, “After thorough consultations, the APC caucus of the Senate has determined their leadership, which will oversee the proceedings and other important matters in the chambers.”
“I am pleased to announce that Senator Opeyemi Bamidele will assume the role of Senate Leader and serve as the Majority Leader. Senator Mohammad Ali Ndume will be the Chief Whip of the 10th Senate. Senator David Umahi, with your consent, will act as the Deputy Leader, and Senator Oyelola Yisa Ashiru will be the Deputy Chief Whip,” he further explained.
Furthermore, the following Senators were appointed: Senator Simon Davou Mwadkwon (PDP, Plateau North) as the Minority Leader, Senator Oyewumi Olalere (PDP, Osun West) as the Deputy Minority Leader, Senator Darlington Nwokocha (LP, Abia Central) as the Minority Whip, and Senator Rufai Hanga (PDP, Kano Central) as the Deputy Minority Whip.
