In a recent development, eight barges carrying approximately 100,000 liters of what is believed to be illegally refined Automotive Gas Oil (AGO), commonly known as diesel, were apprehended in the Bonny Area of Rivers State.
This significant seizure was announced by Rear Admiral Olusegun Ferreira, the Commander of the Joint Task Force, South-South, OPDS, during a press briefing on Sunday.
The commander elaborated that these vessels, suspected of transporting adulterated diesel, were apprehended by security forces as part of a stop-and-search operation conducted across multiple creeks.
Commodore Adedokun Siyanbade, representing Rear Admiral Ferreira, stated that this seizure was in line with the mission to curtail crude oil theft and criminal activities in the Niger Delta, “as part of the directives given to OPDS by the Chief of Defence Staff, Gen. Christopher Musa.”
Siyanbade further revealed that the impounded barges collectively held over 100,000 liters of diesel, stored in various compartments. This operation underscores the ongoing commitment to addressing illicit activities in the region.
