The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) has announced the reopening of a section of the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway that was blocked earlier on Tuesday due to a tragic truck crash on the Otedola Bridge.
In a statement released on Tuesday evening, LASTMA’s spokesperson, Adebayo Taofiq, conveyed this update. The accident, which resulted in a fatality, involved a truck carrying bags of wheat and led to a traffic jam at the 7Up-Berger section of the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway.
The statement further informed that LASTMA successfully retrieved the body of the deceased, who was the truck conductor, from beneath the Otedola Bridge. The body was then handed over to the Lagos Environmental Health Monitoring Unit.
Additionally, the truck involved in the accident was removed from the bridge, and the process of transferring the wheat into another truck was successfully completed.
Preliminary investigations conducted by LASTMA revealed that the accident occurred due to brake failure during heavy rainfall, which prevented the driver from controlling the truck’s speed.
