The Kano State Government has taken decisive action by immediately suspending three principals of public secondary schools due to their dereliction of duty. The government, on the other hand, has recognized and rewarded the diligence of another principal.
According to a statement issued by the Director of Public Enlightenment in the Ministry of Education, Ameen Yassar, this decision was made public in Kano on Friday. The affected schools are G.G.S.S. Dawanau, G.G.S.S. Kwa, and G.A.S.S. Dawanau, all located in Dawakin Tofa Local Government Area.
Meanwhile, the Commissioner for Education, Umar Doguwa, showed his commitment to upholding professionalism by rewarding the Principal of Government Girls Secondary School Harbau in Tsanyawa Local Government Area for her dedication to work.
The announcement was made after the commissioner personally visited the schools between 9 a.m. and 10 a.m. on Friday. During his visit, he discovered that the three suspended principals had been absent from their duty posts on Fridays for an extended period.
Umar Doguwa emphasized that the government would not tolerate truancy, lateness, or any form of official misconduct. Consequently, the suspended principals will remain on suspension indefinitely.
To ensure that academic activities continue without disruption, the commissioner directed the immediate posting of new and competent principals to the three affected schools.
Furthermore, he also issued queries to four teachers at GGSS Kwa and two teachers at GASS Dawanau for their truancy, as their actions were seen as a reflection of unseriousness.
