The Sopurum Hotel, situated in the Nkwelle community of Onitsha, Anambra State, has been severely damaged by a fire that consumed a significant portion of the building.
The exact cause of the fire remains unknown, although reports indicate that it began at approximately 4:30 am on Monday.
Efforts to combat the blaze were already underway, with fire service personnel from both Delta and Anambra states present at the scene.
Despite attempts to reach the Anambra State Fire Chief, Martins Agbili, for comment, he could not be immediately contacted as calls and text messages to his phone went unanswered.
However, the state police spokesman, DSP Tochukwu Ikenga, confirmed the incident and assured that the situation was under control.
“The situation is now under control. The fire broke out early Monday morning, and upon receiving the information, our personnel promptly responded, cordoning off the area to prevent any acts of vandalism.
“No loss of life has been reported, and the fire service personnel are on-site, diligently managing and extinguishing the fire,” added Ikenga.
