Festus Keyamo, former Minister of Labour and Employment, has expressed his admiration for President Bola Tinubu, whom he considers one of the most loyal political allies of the late Chief MKO Abiola, the winner of the annulled 1993 presidential election. Keyamo made this statement through his verified Twitter account on Monday.
Accompanying his message was a photo featuring MKO Abiola, the victor of the election; General Sani Abacha, who assumed the role of military Head of State following the annulment; and Tinubu, who eventually became President three decades later.
In his caption, Keyamo hailed Tinubu as a political soldier of Abiola, emphasizing the significance of the date, June 12, 2023, marking 30 years since the 1993 elections. He acknowledged the irony of two men being alive to witness the day: the “evil genius” responsible for annulling the election and a kinsman of Abiola from Ota, who supported the annulment and exerted significant influence in the nation’s affairs.
Keyamo regarded this situation as a remarkable turn of events, reflecting the concept of life coming full circle. He shared these reflections on the occasion of Democracy Day in Nigeria, which commemorates the annulled election and the subsequent protests that followed.
