Former Kaduna Central Senatorial District lawmaker, Shehu Sani, has urged President Bola Tinubu to initiate an investigation into the administration of President Muhammadu Buhari.
Sani highlighted that the devaluation of the Naira was not the only economic wrongdoing committed by Buhari’s administration, emphasizing that there were additional offenses against the Nigerian people.
Sani, a prominent critic of Buhari’s government, criticized him on May 28, just hours before the end of his tenure, for the detrimental state of the country during the past eight years. He further asserted that Buhari’s administration had strategically placed obstacles in various aspects of national life to make Tinubu’s incoming administration appear better by comparison.
During an interactive session with Nigerians residing in France and neighboring countries on Friday, President Tinubu expressed his dissatisfaction with the financial system under the former Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, Godwin Emefiele. Tinubu lamented that Emefiele had mishandled the country’s financial system, leading to a deterioration in its condition.
Tinubu stated, “At that time, the financial system was corrupt. A few individuals profited immensely, while you, the hardworking citizens, were unable to send money to support your impoverished parents. However, that era has come to an end. It’s in the past.” He assured the audience that appropriate action was being taken against those responsible, indicating that the matter would be resolved internally.
Senator Sani, reacting to Tinubu’s statement on Sunday said, “The redesigning of the Naira is not the only economic crime perpetrated under the Buhari administration.
“The President should courageously allow a full scale investigation of the plunder that occurred under the Buhari administration, beginning with Buhari, his ex ministers, his service chiefs and the cabal wing of his Government.
“The President should not also shield former Governors who are now at liberty, even waiting for political appointment as entitled men. One or two persons in the cage can’t answer for the crime perpetrated by others in the last eight years. The current investigation can easily be stained as selective if the probe net is restricted.
“The simple question is; what about others who also contributed in ruining the economy? Or maybe some of us are just too impatient because of lack of knowledge of what is ahead.”
