In response to the unfolding situation in Brass Local Government Area of Bayelsa State, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) is demanding the urgent release of its officials allegedly held hostage by suspected hoodlums.
In a succinct statement issued on Sunday afternoon, INEC conveyed its concern, stating that officials deployed for Saturday’s governorship election are currently being held captive in Brass.
The electoral body emphasized the detrimental impact of such actions on the credibility of elections and called upon security agencies to promptly facilitate the release of its officials.
“The Unfolding Situation in Brass Local Government Area; The Commission is closely watching the situation in Brass LGA of Bayelsa State where our officials are held hostage,” emphasized INEC.
“This is detrimental to credible elections. We call on the security agencies to immediately facilitate their release,” stressed the commission, underscoring the critical importance of ensuring the freedom of its officials for the integrity of the electoral process.
