A petition filed by the late Nigerian singer, Ilerioluwa Oladimeji Aloba, widely known as Mohbad, has recently emerged online. In this petition, Mohbad lodged various accusations against the Oba of Elegushi and controversial socialite Sam Larry, among others.
Dated June 27, 2023, the petition carries the title “Petition of threat to life, malicious damage of properties valued at the sum of five million naira, assault occasioning harm, oppression, and conduct likely to cause a breach of peace.” Mohbad addressed this petition to the Assistant Inspector-General of Police at the Nigeria Police Force, Force Criminal Investigation Department Annex, Alagbon Close, Ikoyi, Lagos.
Within the contents of the petition, the late singer implored the Nigeria Police Force to intervene and safeguard his life. Mohbad went on to provide a detailed account of an incident in which he and fellow artist Zlatan Ibile were allegedly assaulted by Sam Larry during a music video shoot on June 25, 2023.
Mohbad also noted that during the assault, the perpetrators claimed to be affiliated with Oba Elegushi.
The petition states, “a law-abiding citizen and a musician bring to your notice the assault and threat to my life by the above-mentioned persons.
“On 25th June 2023, while having a video shoot with another artist by the name Zlatan Ibile, the above-mentioned persons numbering about fifteen, led by Sam Larry Elegushi, invaded the premises with dangerous arms such as guns, cutlasses, etc., where I was shooting video and scattered the whole process of the shooting, damaged the equipment I was using for the shooting valued at about Five Million Naira and started threatening my life. In the process, they became violent and assaulted me, and I sustained injuries but narrowly escaped. Attached to this petition are the said pictures.
“The total amount I paid for the shooting they destroyed is Eight million Naira (N8,000,000), which is non-refundable.
“However, during the assault, they were boasting that they work for Oba Elegushi and that they have been asked to deal with me for reasons best known to them, which till date they are still threatening to kill me if seen. Sir, I call on your good office to save my life from the above-mentioned persons and bring them to book. Thank you for your timely intervention.”
A circulating video on the internet captures the moment Mohbad and Zlatan were on set for a music video, purportedly confronted by Sam Larry and his associates targeting the late singer.
This video has triggered widespread reactions on social media, with many Nigerians urging the Nigeria Police Force to apprehend Sam Larry and investigate the role of Mohbad’s former label boss, Naira Marley, in unraveling the circumstances surrounding the singer’s untimely demise.
Efforts to contact Aliyu Giwa, spokesperson for the Police Force Headquarters, Lagos Annex, and Lagos Police Command spokesperson, SP Benjamin Hundeyin, proved unsuccessful, as calls and messages went unanswered.
In the wake of the video’s circulation, enraged Nigerians have taken to Sam Larry’s Instagram page to condemn him for allegedly bullying and menacing the late singer. Sam Larry, whose real name is Samson Erinfolami Balogun, is known to have affiliations with Naira Marley and has deactivated his Instagram account in the face of an onslaught of cyber-attacks since the video emerged.
