In response to the findings of a comprehensive investigation, the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) has taken the step to initiate legal proceedings against Prof Cyril Ndifon.
Prof Ndifon, who was serving as the Dean of the Faculty of Law at the University of Calabar, now faces a series of charges.
In a charge sheet marked FHC/ABJ/CR/511/2023, the ICPC is levying four charges against the professor. They include, allegations of sexual harassment, official corruption, and abuse of office, all in violation of Sections 8, 18, and 19 of the Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Act, 2000. This action was disclosed by the commission’s spokesperson, Azuka Ogugua, in an official statement released on Monday.
One of the charges in the document states:
“That you, Prof Cyril Ndifon, between June and September 2023 in Calabar, within the jurisdiction of this court, while serving as a public officer responsible for certifying students as fit in learning and character, a prerequisite for the award of a Bachelor’s degree in law and admission into the Nigeria Law School, used your office and position as the Dean of the Faculty of Law at the University of Calabar to gratify yourself by soliciting nude photographs and videos from one Ms. ABC (not her real name), a Year 2 diploma student at the University of Calabar, through WhatsApp chats on your phone number 0803*****. This action constitutes an offense under Section 19 of the Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Act, 2000, and is punishable accordingly.”
Prof Cyril Ndifon will be brought to court on a date determined by the court.
As reported by The PUNCH, the ICPC, in cooperation with the Department of State Services, arrested Prof Ndifon on October 4, 2023, in Calabar, Cross River State. This arrest came after he repeatedly disregarded several invitations extended to him.
