The House of Representatives has summoned Azeez Fashola, who is popularly known as Naira Marley, and Mohbad’s manager, Jiggy Adeoye, over the late singer Mohbad’s royalties dispute.
The invitation, extended by the House Committee on Justice, Youth, and Legislative Compliance, reads,
“The House Committees on Justice, Youth and Legislative Compliance invite you and the legal team of MOHBAD for an interactive meeting session as regards a referral received being a resolution of the House of Representatives during their plenary session on Tuesday 26th September 2023 with respect to the circumstances surrounding the royalties and other benefits of Mohbad and to ascertain the level of your interaction with other relevant copyright organisations; such information will guide the committee on further legislative action.”
The lawmakers have taken this step in an attempt to secure the musical rights of Mohbad’s works, and they have also invited Mohbad’s manager, Jiggy Adeoye, to appear on October 31. Mohbad, a 27-year-old former signee of Marlian Records, passed away under controversial circumstances on September 12, 2023.
It was revealed that the House resolution followed the adoption of a motion moved by Babajimi Benson, the lawmaker representing Ikorodu Federal Constituency, Lagos State, on Thursday.
