The Federal Airport Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) has directed all aircraft stationed at the General Aviation Terminal (GAT) of the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in Abuja to be relocated immediately ahead of the inauguration of the new government scheduled for May 29, 2023. The move is aimed at enhancing the safety of the airport during the high-security event.
The circular, signed by FAAN’s Regional Manager, Kabir Mohammed, stated that all aircraft parked at the GAT terminal should be temporarily relocated to alternate airports due to the upcoming Presidential Inauguration. The directive has raised concerns from aviation experts, such as Capt Roland Iyayi, who has noted that many of the aircraft parked at the GAT terminal are not serviceable and may prove difficult to move.
Despite the potential difficulties, the relocation of the aircraft remains necessary to ensure the safety and security of parties involved in the Presidential Inauguration. All aircraft operators have been requested to relocate their aircraft on or before May 22, 2023.
