Four children, including an 11-month-old baby, have been miraculously found alive in a jungle, more than two weeks after their plane crashed in Colombia.
The children have been identified as Lesly Mucutuy (13), Soleiny Mucutuy (9), Tien Noriel Ronoque Mucutuy (4), and Cristin Neriman Ranoque Mucutoy (11 months old).
On May 1, 2023, the ill-fated Cessna 206 aircraft, carrying a total of seven people, experienced engine failure and sent out a distress signal before crashing in the Amazon.
Unfortunately, three adults, including the pilot and Magdalena Mucutuy Valencia, the mother of the four children, lost their lives in the tragic accident. Their bodies were found amidst the wreckage.
According to preliminary reports from the Colombian civil aviation authority, which spearheaded the rescue mission, it appears that the children managed to exit the plane following the crash and ventured into the rainforest in search of help.
The search teams, supported by skilled dogs, discovered partially eaten fruit that the children had relied on for sustenance during their time in the jungle. They also uncovered makeshift shelters, presumably crafted by the resourceful children.
Photographs released by the armed forces depict a pair of scissors, a hair tie, a baby’s drinking bottle, and discarded fruit that were found in the jungle.
President Gustavo Petro described the recovery of the children as a moment of immense joy and celebration for the entire nation. He expressed his heartfelt gratitude to the military for their unwavering dedication throughout the extensive search and rescue operation.
