During her address at the interdenominational church service commemorating Nigeria’s 63rd Independence at the National Christian Centre, First Lady Remi Tinubu provided assurance to the nation that President Bola Tinubu’s administration remains steadfast in its commitment to addressing the country’s challenges, even in the face of formidable obstacles.
In response to the recent outcry triggered by a triple increase in fuel prices, a substantial devaluation of the naira, and a notable 25 percent inflation rate, the First Lady acknowledged the concerns of the population. She emphasized that the government had inherited substantial challenges and encouraged citizens to recognize the intricacy of the circumstances at hand.
“We are not here to put blame on any administration but to fix what has been damaged,” Tinubu affirmed. “My husband is not a magician. He is committed to rebuilding our nation, brick by brick. Have faith; the best is yet to come for us.”
This reassurance follows the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and the Trade Union Congress (TUC) jointly announcing an indefinite strike set to commence on October 3. The unions pointed to the government’s perceived inability to address their grievances, which encompass a wide range of sectors, including aviation, healthcare, education, and banking.
