In a shocking incident, Oladokun Ayomide, a final-year student at the Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta, has been detained by the Ogun State Police Command for allegedly poisoning his girlfriend, Ugbokwe Mmasichukwu, and fellow student, Odumosu Semilore.
The police disclosed that the suspect used a poison believed to be a mixture of brownie cakes, alcohol, and an unidentified harmful substance, inviting his girlfriend to his residence in the Surulere community in the Camp area of the city on Friday.
Quoting from PUNCH Metro, it was reported that, before heading to the suspect’s residence, Mmasichukwu instructed her schoolmate, Semilore, to join her at her boyfriend’s place in Surulere community, Camp, Abeokuta.
After consuming the suspected poisonous substance, the victims lost consciousness, prompting an immediate rush to the hospital.
The motive behind the suspect’s actions remained unclear at the time of this report, but the police informed correspondents that preliminary investigations suggested Ayomide had an intention to harm the victims.
Chief Security Officer of the Federal College of Education, Osiele Abeokuta, Olusola Ajibola, who led the suspect’s arrest, conveyed to the police that Mmasichukwu and Semilore were students of the institution, while Ayomide was a final-year student of FUNAAB.
The Public Relations Officer, Omolola Odutola, stated on Tuesday that the victims were responding to treatment, and ongoing investigations aimed to uncover the circumstances behind the incident.
According to Odutola, “The victims were believed to have been fed brownie cake, and they immediately lost consciousness after eating it and were taken to the Osiele Medical Centre for treatment. A foil paper pack used for the brownie cake was found when our officers visited the crime scene. The suspect was handed over to the police division by the Chief Security Officer of the school.”
